Our passion started at a Dog Show in Sao Paulo, Brazil,
where we are settled.
It was Autumn 1978, and the group finalists were entering the
ring. Suddenly this splendid beauty floated by as if it had wings, wrapped in the colors
of the autumn sunset, regal and superb like a King!
It was the first time ever we met such a gorgeous kind of dog...
The King was Ch. ZARDIN'S ZOROASTER (Teddy), imported from the
USA by Ildefonso Pessoa-Monteiro and Angelo
Leme Cavalheiro, of ZIANA Kennels.
Angelo handled him with perfection, and, of course, he went Best in Show that day, and
many others that we followed them.
The following year we already had our first Afghan Hound, a male imported from Argentina - bred by JACQUELINE KUBAT (DRAGONFLY'S) - who was a father/daughter cross
based on the GRANDEUR bloodline, via WESTWIND'S.
Also by the end of that same year we got the so desired daughter of
Teddy, who was also strongly based on the Grandeur bloodline, having many times in her
pedigree the legend of the breed SHIRKHAN OF GRANDEUR.
So, that's how we got started... In 1980
we registered the kennel name STENARA (we had a couple of
homebred champion Collies at that time). In 1981 we had our first litter and since then, although we don't breed very often
(we "spend our time" raising the puppies and watching them grow up...), we do
try to keep a rational breeding program, with linebreedings and inbreedings, looking
forward to improve the quality of our Afghans further more.
In 1994 our Ch. CARNIVAL STENARA ROLLER COASTER
(NIKKI) was Top Afghan Male in the Regional Ranking.
Two of our dogs (Ch. CARNIVAL ZIANA LIGHTNING BOLT and his son
Ch. STENARA IN-BLUE) went to live in USA in co-ownership with
Luiz Aoki, who
was our "representative" in Chicago, IL from 94 up to 2001.
On our Kennel's 15th anniversary, in 1995, we were
Top Breeder (All Breeds) of Sao Paulo and State of Sao Paulo,
3rd Top Breeder (All Breeds) of all Brazil
and Top Afghan Hound Breeder of all Brazil.
We finished 7 Championships, 6 Grand Championships, and
4 Pan-American Championships, with a couple of All-Breed Best in Shows and many All Breed
Best in Show placements.
We also had NIKKI figured among the Top Afghan Hounds of the
World in San Diego Congress "Top Dogs in Topknots"
(see catalog excerpt).

celebrate our 15th anniversary, isn't it?
In 1996 we had almost all of
our dogs finished, and we showed sparingly
(our last litter was in 1993), but we were awarded again the Top
Breeder
(All Breeds) of the city of Sao Paulo,
3rd Top Breeder (All Breeds) of the State of Sao Paulo
and 18th Top Breeder (All Breeds) of all Brazil
(as I said before, we don't have many litters...).
We finished 1 Championship, 2 Grand Championships,
4 Pan-American Championships and 2 International Championships.
1997: an Afghan Hound Specialty in Brazil, after a break of 3 years.
It was in Sao Bernardo do Campo, SP, organized by the Kennel Club do ABC and the Judge was
the Afghan Hound breeder - for more than 30 years! -
Mr. Norman Huidobro (Huilaco's Kennel, Spain), and we couldn't be happiest with the
results:
NIKKI went BEST IN SHOW and
MAGIE NOIRE his BEST OPPOSITE SEX!

1998, and the new generation is starting to show off:
SHAHRIZA and JAHANGIR are already Youngster Champions (a Brazilian special title for
puppies up to 1 year old), and by the end of the year SHAHRIZA and SHAHR JAHAN finished
their Championships, Grand Championships and won their
Pan-American titles.
SHAHR JAHAN was shown for only 5 weekends, and was
placed two times as 4th all-breed BIS at the age of 17 months.

And we finished the year as (again...)
the best Afghan Hound Breeder of all Brazil.
